CANCELLED-Trailblazer Walk- Banningwood Preserve

Join us for a moderately easy walk at Banningwood Preserve on Tuesday, September 27 at 9:30 am. Everyone is welcome.
We will explore Banningwood Preserve led by Wendolyn Hill, Lyme Land Trust board member and Town of Lyme Open Space Coordinator. The hike is a about 2 miles. Banningwood is a beautiful preserve with meadows, mature forests, cedar groves, and dramatic rock outcroppings. Roaring Brook meanders through it.
Boy Scouts from Troop 26 led by Eagle Candidate Brendan Wright recently built a camp and picnic site which includes a tent platform, two picnic tables with benches, and a fire pit with benches. We will check this out. There are a few rocky areas so donât forget to bring your walking stick!

Directions: The Preserve parking area is less than 1/4 mile north of Hadlyme Four Corners on Town Street (Rte 82). Look for the sign. From Rt. 156 West (going north): At the end of Rte. 156, turn left onto Rte 82. At the flashing red stoplight (Hadlyme Four Corners), turn right to continue on Rte 82W (going north). The parking area is less than 1/4 mile on the right.
Cruise to View Swallow Spectacular-Wait List

Every autumn an estimated one million swallows come together above an island in the CT River as a part of their migration ritual. This growing mass of birds performs undulating dances before suddenly descending as one to roost just after the sun sets.
Join us on a cruise aboard Adventure, the new sister ship of the RiverQuest, to view this miraculous display. Commentary about the birds and other wildlife, as well as binoculars (if you don’t have your own), will be provided by CT River Expeditions.
Wine and light refreshments are included.
Preregistration and prepayment required. The cost is $40 per person for Lyme Land Conservation Trust members, $45 for non-members. No children under 10. The boat leaves Eagle Landing State Park in Haddam promptly at 5:00 and returns in about three hours. If the trip is canceled because of inclement weather, refunds will be provided. Check our website if weather is questionable. Tickets are non-refundable after September 20. After that date, if we have a waiting list, we will use our best efforts to find a buyer for your ticket(s) if you need to cancel. No-shows on cruise day are not refundable.

Join us for this easy walk in Old Lyme along the beach of Long Island Sound. Everyone is welcome.
This week’s hike starts at White Sands Beach as we explore Griswold Point Preserve in Old Lyme, led by Wendolyn Hill, Lyme Land Trust board member and Town of Lyme Open Space Coordinator. We will walk along the beach at low tide and go as far as we can on Griswold Point. Bring a pair of water shoes in case we need to wade part of the way. It is a wonderful spot for bird-watching. Bring your binoculars and water bottle. We will walk about 2 miles.

Directions: From I-95N Exit 70, follow Rte. 156 south for about 3 miles. Take a right onto Old Shore Road. Go 0.5 miles and turn right onto White Sands Beach Road. Follow straight to the White Sands Beach Parking Lot.

The hike is about 2.5 miles long. We will meet at the entrance to the Preserve on Sterling Hill Road.

Join us for a walk at the Young Preserve portion of Lyme Corner Trails led by Wendolyn Hill, Lyme Land Trust board member and Open Space Coordinator for the Town of Lyme. As we walk along we will trim the trail as needed. Bring along heavy duty gloves and light weight trimmersâ weeders, pruners, and/or loppers. We will also be on the lookout for invasive plant species and will remove what we are able.

Hadlyme Heritage Day: Celebrate! And Optional Guided Walk at Proposed Brockway-Hawthorne Property

In its 50th Anniversary year, the Lyme Land Conservation Trust has announced a fund raising drive to protect the Brockway-Hawthorne Property, 82 acres of ecologically key wildlife habitat in Hadlyme which will also extend walking trails in the area. The Hadlyme Country Market is hosting an effort to help raise funds for the Hadlyme Challenge Grant âAn anonymous gift offered by a neighbor to match local residentsâ donations in order to purchase the Brockway-Hawthorne Property. If everyone chips in towards preserving this property during this time, the money will go twice as far towards reaching our goal.
On Sunday September 4th from 10am-4pm, forty-five minute guided tours will be offered at the Brockway-Hawthorne property every hour on the half hour. Maps and information packets will be at the Hadlyme Country Market along with music and gifts for donors and tour participants. Tickets for a special raffle featuring a framed, numbered and signed Lori Warner print are already being sold at the Country Market with the drawing to be held Sunday at 4pm. PopCentric all natural Ice Pops will be there and a local Banjo artist highlighting the event. iCRVradio.com will be doing a live feed, interviewing members of the Lyme Land Trust members all volunteer board, dignitaries and celebrants. “Celebrating Lyme’s Beauty” ~ Paint-Out Exhibition and Sale

The 4th Annual âCelebrating Lymeâs Beautyâ Exhibition, sponsored by the Lyme Land Conservation Trust and the Lyme Art Association, will be shown in the Goodman Gallery of the Lyme Art Association. A festive opening reception will be held on July 22, 2016 from 5-7 pm. On exhibit will be landscapes created in June 2016 during the “Celebrating Lyme’s Beauty” Paint-Out. The Paint-Out event continues the plein air tradition established by the early American Impressionists who founded the Lyme Art Colony over a hundred years ago.

The landscapes will highlight the historic and natural beauty of the Hamburg Bridge Historic District, and the the Lyme Preserves that surround it: the Hemlocks and the Czikowsky Preserve.

Information about Important Bird Area Designation in Lyme

On July 11, 2016, the Lyme Forest Block and the Mouth of the Connecticut River were two of five landscape scale Important Bird Areas (IBA) officially designated in this region. The Important Bird Area program is a global effort to identify the most important places for bird populations and to focus conservation efforts on those sites. Once sites are recognized, Audubon works with landowners to increase local knowledge on the value of these sites to birds.
Any landowner within the boundaries of the IBA are eligible for the benefits of recognizing their properties as part of the IBA, including eligibility of IBA small grants or utilizing IBA status as a way to bolster other grant applications.
