Celebrating Lyme’s Beauty

An exhibition of paintings completed at Lyme Land Trust’s Clucas Field property during the second annual Paintout, will be on view in the Lyman Allyn Art Museum’s Glassenberg Gallery until July 3.  The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday (lymanallyn.org). On July 7 the exhibition will move to the Lyme Art Association’s downstairs gallery, where paintings will be available for purchase.  Don’t miss it!

The annual meeting held at Lyme Public Hall will give members the opportunity to learn more about the Trust’s accomplishments and plans for the future. Members will be asked to vote for three new director nominees as well as some Bylaws revisions. There will be a speaker and refreshments served. Details to follow.

2012 Annual Meeting

Susan Ballek will speak on the connection between the famous “Lyme light” and the 19th century impressionists who lived in the area and painted landscapes now famous worldwide. On display will be paintings produced during the 2nd annual paint-out in May.

CT Trail Days Walks

Date: Sat June 2, 2012
Time: 10:00 am
Place: Chestnut Hill Preserve. From Route 156 in Lyme turn east onto Sterling City Road. Sterling City Road is a loop. The north entrance is 4 miles south of Route 82 and the south entrance is 4 miles north of Exit 70 on I-95. Turn east again onto Sterling Hill Rd to the Chestnut Preserve sign at the entrance. Park on the right hand side of the road.

The short hike led by Lisa Niccolai will take walkers along a moderately level path to a small waterfall tumbling over ledge rock. The longer hike led by Ralph Lewis will also enter Nehantic State Forest and continue along winding more rugged trails. There will be discussions of interest to young and old alike. We will learn about the geology of the area, some history, plant and tree identification and much more. Waterproof shoes are a good idea.No dogs please.

This easy two hour walk on old woods roads will feature some hilly spots with lovely views. The purpose is to explain and show participants the results of a property management project that was started a few years ago. The discussion will demonstrate the use of deer fencing to protect early growth, invasive species control, mowing of fields, results of prior logging activities and a walk along a creek to see a new Pitch Pine Plantation. Since this is being held on private property, it is a Land Trust Members only walk with a limited number of participants. Call Diana Boehning for reservations and directions. 860-434-2336

The Lyme Art Association, the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, and the Lyme Land Conservation Trust will be sponsoring a day of en plein air painting at Clucas Field, a beautiful meadow lined with stone walls on Brush Hill Road, on the left just past Tantumorantum Road. Fish Ladders in Lyme

Marine wildlife expert Linda Bireley will demonstrate how fish use the ladder to reach their
spawning grounds upstream above the old mill dam. She will discuss how the returning fish are
monitored and the species that return annually to the 8 Mile River to produce new generations.
This program is rain or shine & appropriate for all ages. Polarized sunglasses suggested.
Park at 8 Mile River Cemetery on Mt. Archer Rd on right 1/4 mile off of Rt. 156
