She also mentors interns in the Master Gardener certification program and works at the New London County extension office.

Join our work party for the third year to remove invasive knotweed and learn to control Knotweed on your own property. Better yet, organize your own neighborhood Nix the Knotweed Day! (Let us know!) We are in our third year of tackling the knotweed using the “method of 3s”: cut knotweed down to the ground and remove the plant material; 3 chops this growing season (May, mid-July, and mid-August). The cuttings must be carefully disposed of since each little piece will regrow into a new plant. We will fully solarize all plant material to kill it.
We are seeing progress! The knotweed has been highly reduced where we have used this method for the last 2 years.
On Saturday, we will also check to see if any maintenance is needed on the rain garden at Reed Landing.
Bring work gloves, clippers or loppers. We’ll provide the bags! Bring your own water bottle. Snacks will be provided.

The new observatory is in full motion.The Lyme Land Trust offers public viewing sessions once a month near the new moon. Our cohorts have several different telescopes that are on display for your observing pleasure, and we now are pleased to have a modern 14″ Schmidt-Cassegrain housed in a permanent observatory structure.
On any given night, public sessions will be co-facilitated by one or more of our talented cohort enthusiasts:

With a photograph and a few taps on your smartphone, you, too, can follow in the footsteps of great biologists like Charles Darwin by identifying different species and sharing your observations with the scientific and conservation communities. Join Rochelle Davis and Jim Arrigoni, from the Lyme Pollinator Pathway, for this informative program.

This 2-hour workshop will show you how to use the app on your smartphone and desktop computer, what the best practices are for entering photos, and add hands-on outdoor practice. The Lyme Land Trust has a number of preserves with iNaturalist projects already set up, so we’ll show you how to use the app, what you can contribute, and what you can see in Lyme and the surrounding areas.

Led by the Lyme Land Trust’s Environmental Director, Jim Arrigoni, come explore the maze of channels in one of the most placid and wildlife-filled habitats in the lower Connecticut River. The Cove is a tidal, freshwater marsh that is home to ospreys, eagles, egrets, herons, ducks, swans, red-winged blackbirds & marsh wrens, as well as basking turtles and numerous native plants. Jim will speak to management challenges posed by invasive species and impacts resulting from recreation and development. This will be a relatively easy paddle for anyone with modest paddling experience. Free event with refreshments afterwards.
Life jackets required; binoculars, sunscreen, bug spray recommended.
Inclement weather cancels.

Ryan Quinn grew up in Lyme and graduated from Lyme-Old Lyme High school. After moving away for college and a career in education, he returned to the area in 2015 with his wife Baylee Drown to start a vegetable farm. In 2019 they were able to become Lyme landowners by purchasing what is now known as Long Table Farm. Prior to being a full time farmer Quinn has worked as a sailor, handyman, science teacher and outdoor educator.

Jim’s primary responsibility is to oversee stewardship of the 3130 acres spread across 112 parcels that are owned or managed by LLT. He comes to us with a variety of experiences spanning ecological research and restoration, natural resource and sanctuary management, and environmental education. Improving the outlook for native biodiversity has always motivated Jim, whether by working with people, land, or preferably both at the same time. Most recently he served as conservation biologist at The Connecticut Audubon Society. He holds a BS degree in wildlife and fisheries biology from the University of Vermont and a MS degree in conservation biology from the State University of New York in Syracuse. Jim lives in Middletown.

Wendy has lived in Lyme since 1982. Her career has encompassed a combination of art and the natural sciences; as a medical illustrator working at Yale University Medical School for 30 years, and a professor of art at Middlesex Community College for 10 years. She is currently the Open Space Coordinator for the Town of Lyme and co-chair of the Lyme Pollinator Pathway. “I love the fact that the LLCT seeks to encourage the appreciation of the natural world by exposing people to the wonders of nature through education, guided walks and other opportunities. I believe that preserving the land in its most natural state is very important to the physical and mental health of our planet. I love to learn and there is so much to learn in the woods of Lyme, about the natural world, history and beauty.”

Tony has lived in Lyme since 1986. He is a graduate of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Management and co-founder of Ecological and Environmental Consulting Services (EECOS) specializing in forest ecology and land use management.

Kristina grew up in Old Lyme and has made Lyme her home since 2004. She held numerous jobs in the corporate world and most recently was the Administrative Director of Musical Masterworks, a nonprofit chamber music series in Old Lyme. As the Executive Director, she is responsible for leading the LLCT as it relates to the strategic direction and overall management of the organization. She identifies and implements short-and long-term strategic goals and is accountable to the Board of Directors for achieving those goals.
