Beebe Preserve – Canceled due to rain. Meet at the parking lot on Old Grassy Hill Rd. The easy 1-mile loop trail passes many stone walls and a mysterious large rock cairn. A side spur trail brings one to a viewing platform on a vibrant beaver pond.

Join us by ZOOM–award-winning photographer Caryn B. Davis, for a presentation of her landscapes of the natural world. She will explain her creative process with particular attention to composition, learning the rules and then breaking them, the artistry of abstract images versus realistic, and how using different focal lengths within the same scene can yield different compositional results. Caryn will also show images of gardens and landscapes from her recent trips to Antarctica & Yellowstone National Park.
This presentation is part of the Lyme Land Trust’s photography program, Imagining Lyme-A Visual Exploration of Lyme’s Preserves, which encourages people to appreciate the beauty of nature through photography. https://imagininglyme.org/

Caryn B. Davis is a Lyme resident who has specialized in architecture, interiors, garden and travel photography for over 20 years. Her career has spanned the globe taking her to over 50 countries. She is also a prolific writer with articles that have been featured in the New York Times, Town & Country, Lonely Planet, Conde Nast Traveler, Fine Art Connoisseur, New Zealand Geographic, and others. Caryn has produced two commissioned photography books, A Connecticut Christmas: Celebrating the Holiday in Classic New England Style, and the newly published Connecticut Waters: Celebrating Our Coastline and Waterways. Banningwood Preserve. Meet at parking lot on Town Street (Rte. 82). Full loop of the preserve beginning with upper red to Parkers Perch, down to Diana’s Field and following all of Yellow along the Roaring Brook before returning on lower red. About 1.5 hrs with some steep grades on the Upper Red trail.

Autumn Forest Bathing at Young Preserve
Time: 1:00-3:00 pm
Place: Young Preserve, Gungy Rd., Lyme, CT, Pull-in parking along the east side of Gungy Road, about 1/2 mile north of Beaver Brook Rd.

Relax and unwind as you breathe in the crisp autumn air among the trees.
Experience the soothing sounds of swishing leaves, the smell of autumn earth, and the changing colors of the season. Wander among the laurels, mature forest, and rock outcroppings as we awaken the senses to all of life.
The walk concludes with a wild-foraged tea.
Folding stools are available for your use, or bring along your own stool or sit mat. The walk is about 1-mile over easy to moderate terrain. Rain or shine.

Regan Stacey is an artist and environmentalist whose passion is to re-connect humans to nature for the betterment of themselves, their communities, and our planet, Earth. She is also co-founder of The Forest Therapy School, training forest therapy guides to share this work around the world. Autumn Astronomy Observing Session

Come join us for a night of fall observing on Friday October 15. On this night, the first quarter moon will be visible at sunset, so we will spend some time observing it along the terminator line that separates light from dark on the moon. Hands on exploring will be encouraged. We will also see Jupiter and Saturn, and welcome some of the new objects as they rise in the eastern sky, signaling the transition from summer to fall. If you have a telescope bring it out. There’s plenty of space to setup, and cohorts will be happy to assist if needed.
