Join us to help prepare Riverside Preserve for the June 23 Opening. Help us clear brush, and clean up the field. Please bring loppers, clippers, and work gloves, and metal rakes. Bring a weedwacker if you have one.

Bird-Friendly Communities Workshop

Join Katie Blake, Bird Friendly Communities Program Manager at Audubon Connecticut, as she teaches us how to create Bird Friendly Communities in urban, suburban, and rural places here in Connecticut. We will learn what we can do to help restore and reconnect these places, allowing all communities to provide important habitat for native birds. In turn, birds offer us a richer, more beautiful, and healthful place to live!.
This free event is part of a Bird Workshop Series offered by the Lyme Forest Block Conservation Project—an initiative launched by Audubon Connecticut, in partnership with the Town of Lyme and the Lyme Land Trust, the Eightmile River Wild and Scenic Coordinating Committee, The Nature Conservancy, and other local land trusts, and municipalities. Bat Presentation with Maureen Heidtmann

Join us in Diana’s Field with local librarian Maureen Heidtmann who moonlights as a bat expert and rehabilitator! This all-ages presentation will cover bat populations in Connecticut, the threats they face, and how we can help to protect them. She will also bring some of her furry flying friends with her!
Maureen Heidtmann has been working with bats for more than 25 years. She is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and a Certified Wildlife Conservationist with the State of Connecticut’s DEEP. She has been presenting programs, chiefly about bats, for many years, including one on Long Island which drew more than 300 people. She has recently been written about in Connecticut Wildlife Magazine and several newspapers for rescuing and raising an endangered species Eastern Small-footed bat, the first of its kind to be seen in the state since 1940.

Join us for a Talk and walk at Thach Preserve with Anthony Irving, forest ecologist and Lyme Land Trust board member. Spring is an active time in this vibrant environment which centers around a beaver pond. Anthony will discuss the natural features and their connection to the local ecology. The walk is about 1 mile.

Restoration Ecology Workshop

Did you know that restoring native habitat can help our wildlife in Connecticut? Join us as Pam Hine, Senior Lecturer in Botany at Connecticut College, shares her knowledge and insight on restoring ecosystems by removing harmful invasive species and allowing the natural habitat to return.

CT Trails Day Walk-Introduction to Self-Guided Trail Walk For All Ages

Join us for the opening of an Interpretive Trail that highlights the fascinating ecology, history and geology at NaturePlace, in the Lyme Land Trust’s Banningwood Preserve. NaturePlace is an outdoor education space inspired by the vision of Diana and Parker Lord.The self-guided Interpretive Trail, which will be available as a new map and brochure, is designed to engage curious hikers of all ages and interests. Lyme Land Trust Directors and environmentalists Regan Stacey and Wendolyn Hill will guide the group through the stations on the tour with the assistance of Parker Lord, history enthusiast.

Trailblazers – Mt Archer Ruins

Join us for this moderately easy walk in the woods. Everyone is welcome.
This week’s hike will explore the Moore Trail in Mt Archer Woods/Eno Preserves, led by Wendolyn Hill, Town of Lyme Open Space Coordinator and Lyme Land Trust board member. The hike is about 3 miles, with an option for a shorter route. Meet at the Mt Archer Woods Parking Lot.

Directions: Rt. 156 north to Mt. Archer Road. Left onto Mt Archer Road. Go one mile on Mt Archer Road (bear left up the big hill). The parking lot is down a long driveway on the left, the 4th long driveway after you start up the hill. Look for the stone post marker that has “Mt Archer Woods Town of Lyme” written on it. It faces the road, so you canât read it until you are on top of it. (If you get to 100 Mt. Archer Road, you have gone too far).
