Tori is a Mom of two littles – Kade, 3 yrs, and Quinn, 1 yr. Hiking and wandering in the local preserves, has really given her family the safe space to let Kade run loose and has a calming effect on Quinn. Working full time, volunteering in many organizations and finding time to enjoy the outdoors with the whole family, can be tough, but it is worth it!
Fall Colors Walk with Joe Standart – Improve Your Photography Skills on Smartphone or SLR Cameras

Take a walk with photographer Joe Standart to gain insight into picture taking as part of our Imagining Lyme photography program. efore the walk, he will teach the techniques, settings and editing options on a smart phone. Many of the concepts apply to all cameras. As we explore, Joe Standart will give insight into using the fall colors as part of a dynamic composition.

Imagining Lyme – A Visual Exploration of Lyme’s Preserves, is the Lyme Land Trust’s amateur photography program which encourages people to expand their visual awareness while highlighting the beauty of Lyme Preserves through photographs. The deadline for summer photos is September 30, 2023. You do not have to reside in Lyme, but photos must be taken in Lyme at these places:
- Lyme Preserves owned and/or managed by the Lyme Land Trust, Town of Lyme, and The Nature Conservancy View a map of the preserves
- Pollinator/wildlife habitat with native vegetation– May be in a backyard, preserve or in a Lyme Pollinator Pathway garden in Lyme, CT.
- Trail 53- the sky above Lyme.
The deadline for submission of Fall Photos is December 31, 2024. Three photos of distinction will be chosen.
Night Hike with Quinn

Join Quinn, Lyme Land Trust board member, for a family friendly night hike (ages 5 and up). We focus on how our perceptions change and appreciate what night brings to the forests and ponds of Lyme. Our way will be lit by the almost full moon. We will not be using artificial light, but you are invited to bring an emergency flashlight. Dress warmly and bring a walking stick.

Young or old, experienced, or totally unfamiliar, we look forward to exposing you to our uniquely dark skies here in Lyme. We have several different telescopes that are on display including a 14″ Schmidt-Cassegrain housed in a permanent observatory.

Fall Colors Forest Bathing – A Guided Experience
Time: 9:30 am-12:00 pm
Place: Brockway-Hawthorne Preserve, Brush Hill Rd, Lyme CT

Start your day with a guided forest bathing session among the freshly fallen leaves and crisp morning air, awakening your senses to all that fall has to offer.
Enjoy a gentle mindful movement sequence, nature meditation, and a slow-paced walk with opportunities to pause and connect with nature along the way. The experience concludes with tea together.
The walk is about 1-mile round trip over easy to moderate terrain.

Gentle Walk Wednesday: Griswold Point – Wendy

We will walk along the beach shore to Griswold Point and back. Less than a mile there and back. Bring binoculars if you have them.

Hikes will be lead by Wendy Hill, Open Space Coordinator of Lyme and the Vice President of Lyme Land Trust. The walks are easy, fairly flat dirt paths with some uneven footing, unless noted. Gentle pace. About 1 mile. Bring a walking stick, water bottle and dress for the weather. Inclement weather cancels.

Lyme Volunteer Fair

Meet representatives from Lyme-affiliated organizations, boards and commissions. At this fun-filled event, attendees will hear inspiring stories about how volunteers play a critical role in keeping Lyme safe, operational, and fiscally responsible, as well as to discover how they might put their skills and talents to use, whether it’s providing an hour or two to clear a hiking trail, assisting an organization with administrative work, or serving on a board or commission. There are so many enjoyable and meaningful ways to be of service in the town of Lyme, and the Volunteer Fair is a great way to connect with neighbors and find out what volunteer opportunities are available.
From the Lyme Ambulance Association to Parks & Rec, the Affordable Housing Commission to the Lyme Land Trust, volunteers play a critical role in keeping the town of Lyme running smoothly. Lyme employs only a handful of full-time employees, so to operate efficiently, more than 140 positions on boards and commissions are staffed with volunteers. These are talented citizens who step forward to serve our town with their expertise and experience, dedication and passion.
Free coffee and cider donuts will be served.
All are welcome.

Celebrate Fall and Cider! Join us from 4:00 to 5:00 pm for a walk at Gillette’s Castle to enjoy the Fall colors and beautiful views of the Connecticut River.
After the walk, it’s a 5 minute drive for a fun social hour at the Yankee Cider Company, which specializes in a variety of delicious New England Style hard ciders from apples grown in East Haddam.
The first drink is 50% off for those who attend the walk.

Take-a-Walk Wednesday: Banningwood Preserve – Wendy

Place: Meet at parking lot on 19 Town St. (Rte. 82), 1/4 mile north of Hadlyme Four Corners.

We will walk an 1.5 mile loop through a variety of habitats, with a few steep grades. We will check out the ongoing habitat restoration project carried out by the Lyme Land Trust along Roaring Brook.
